Q+A with Boxpark Shoreditch Pop Up

30 August, 2017

We have lifestyle goods and home accessories online seller 'The Whitebeam Shop' next up to take residency in our unit 26 pop-up unit. Read below to find out what to expect from their stay here @BOXPARK:

Tell us about who you are and what you do?

The Whitebeam Shop is an independent online store. We sell lifestyle goods and home accessories; statement pieces that elevate our daily lives. Our items reflect thoughtful design and beautiful construction. In addition, we care very much about ethics, sustainability, and supporting small business. Our lines come from all over the world and each has its own story, which is intertwined with the artisans behind them. Whitebeam is driven by these principles.

Which song best sums up your brand?

‘My Little Corner of the World’ by Yo La Tengo is a good example. The song is a cover from the 60s and parallels our ethos. It’s classic in structure, timeless in sound, and reinterpreted with a modern sensibility by a quintessential indie rock band. This song feels like a reverie, which we hope our products can provide as well—small moments of joy from its sheer loveliness.

What can we expect from your stay at BOXPARK?

This pop-up allows us to meet and interact with shoppers. As an online shop, we have the advantage of reaching a broad customer base. That said, this event provides the opportunity of being amongst the community. In addition, we will highlight some of our more tactile and sensory products: hand-made ceramics, rain jackets, soaps, candles, and so forth. It will be great to talk to shoppers as they touch, smell, and try on.

Which piece from your current collection is your favourite?

The Gabriel Artigas mini tusk earrings are certainly up there. Jewellery like this is ideal because it’s simultaneously beautiful and versatile. They’re the perfect everyday piece with a bit of personality.

What’s the best reason to come to Shoreditch for a shopping spree?

Shoreditch is great because so much is available in a small, concentrated area. There are tons of independent shops and they run the gamut from vintage purveyors to boutiques carrying modern and avant-garde designers. Many of our favourite brands have their brick and mortar shops here. House of Hackney is certainly one of them.

What’s your top Shoreditch tip?

Once you’ve perused all your favourite shops, we suggest you head to Andina. Nothing says leisurely day like a Bloody Mary and their version is made with pisco. It has a kick!

Should you find yourself hung over, and wanting to skip the cocktail, we recommend venturing a tiny bit out to Brick Lane. Pop into Beigel Bake for a hot salt beef bagel with extra mustard. That should soothe you a bit. After that, step into Rough Trade East to flip through the stacks. You may even catch a live gig while you’re there.

What does the future hold for your brand?

We will keep doing what we love—scouting and sourcing meaningful items and getting to know the craftsmen behind them.

We have several newcomers coming to Whitebeam Shop. There are two Danish brands: Raawii makes simple and bold ceramics and Meraki makes fantastic toiletry and cleansing products. We will have the German Hanska with their well-designed totes and bags. We’ll also carry Harto, a home goods designer from France, and you’ll soon see their stools and mirrors available at Whitebeam. It makes us extremely happy to bring these lines to our shop and to introduce them to our customers.

You can catch The Whitebeam Shop's pop-up from Tuesday 29th August - Sunday 10th September in unit 26 of BOXPARK Shoreditch!
